Collaborations to Promote
Innovation

Crop Development is a Team Sport

Gene editing is an exciting capability for imbuing crops with capabilities not currently expressed. Like a coach can silence negative thoughts and regulate behaviors to fortify an athlete’s performance, GeneNeer is able to silence genes and control their level of expression to enhance crop resilience, performance, nutrition, yield, etc. Even companies experienced in gene editing can benefit from GeneNeer’s proprietary platforms. The company welcomes cooperation and partnerships of all kinds to help improve crop performance.

Partnerships: Traits by Design

Now, breeders, seed developers and research institutions of varying sizes can collaborate with GeneNeer, based upon their proprietary varieties, to develop new enhanced non-GM crops. This approach democratizes crop seed innovation. Key partnership approaches include:

  • Technology Licensing
  • Collaborative Development
  • Commissioned Development

Partner companies are responsible for performing validation and commercializing the resulting product. GeneNeer will support the regulatory process, as well as future enhancements using the Superlines developed for the project.

Trait-by-Design partnerships are determined based on customers’ elite varieties or licensed varieties, including: soy, corn, apples, berries, etc.

In-house Development: Proprietary Seed Lines

GeneNeer’s R&D team designs market-disruptive products featuring lucrative traits, as yet unannounced. Internally, the company is focused on the development of enhanced GE, non-GM potato varieties using its technology platforms. With a global market value of US$140 billion, potatoes were chosen as the company’s focus due to market size and importance, as well as the ability of GeneNeer’s technologies to enable and/or facilitate enhancement and breeding of vegetative crops.

  • Exclusive / Non-exclusive Product Licensing

Proprietary Seed Line licensing is based upon varieties already developed by GeneNeer, such as 100% Amylopectin Potatoes (Russet Burbank or Desirée) for the potato starch industry.

Partnerships: Traits by Design

Innovation companies, such as breeders, seed developers and research institutions are invited to collaborate with GeneNeer in the development of enhanced crops based upon their proprietary varieties. GeneNeer will create Superlines – tissue culture of the preferred variety with GeneNeer’s technology platform inside – and conduct the trait design; then the partner’s lab can either conduct trait integration independently or with GeneNeer. Partner companies are responsible for performing validation and commercializing the resulting product. GeneNeer will support the regulatory process…as well as future enhancements using the Superlines developed for the project.

In-house Development: Proprietary Seed Lines

Internally, GeneNeer is engaged in the development of enhanced GE, non-GM potato varieties using its technology platforms. The company’s first products were two varieties of potatoes with 100% Amylopectin, producing a higher yield with the same resources, for use in the potato starch industry. Today, the company is focusing on disruptive products featuring lucrative traits. Resulting products will be available for licensing by players in the potato supply chain.

In-House Enhanced Crop Varieties:

Facilitating rapid crop enhancement
to address immediate and alternating
market needs

GeneNeer’s Superlines facilitate development of enhanced crop varieties, featuring specific genetic traits. As an enabling technology in sweet potatoes, and a facilitating technology in potatoes, Superlines are used by GeneNeer to develop product lines with proprietary traits in globally-important crops. GeneNeer’s initial focus on potatoes and sweet potatoes will be followed by additional row crops. GeneNeer will sell these lines to Tier 1 and 2 crop seed companies for commercialization in their relevant market segments.

Exploration of Gene Editing Capabilities

Until the European Union formally relaxes regulations pertaining to new genomic techniques (NGTs), breeders and food companies are invited to conduct research using GeneNeer’s gene-editing platforms. Because the resulting products contain no trace of foreign DNA, there is a high likelihood that they will become part of the cornucopia of European crop offerings in the near future. Whether to experiment with these cutting-edge capabilities or to gain an edge in global competition, European partnerships are welcome!

  • Research Partnerships
  • Technology Licensing

Exploratory use of GeneNeer’s technology platforms may include rapid identification of crop lines successfully optimized using traditional breeding techniques, saving valuable time and money.
